Frequently Asked Questions
Answers to common questions about The Anchor House, our program, and how to apply.
Applying & Getting Started
Complete the online application on this site. Fill in what you can — we'll cover anything else in our first conversation. If you'd prefer to talk before filling anything out, call us at (574) 341-4250.
A staff member will review your application and reach out within 2 business days. We'll ask a few questions, answer any you have, and talk through whether The Anchor House is the right fit. From there, we'll walk you through next steps.
No. Fill out what you can and submit. We'll sort out the rest together. The application is a starting point for a conversation, not a final exam.
Yes. We work with people who are transitioning directly from incarceration and understand what that process involves. If you are approaching a release date or have recently been released, the best step is to reach out and start a conversation. We'll talk through your situation, what documentation you'll need, and how the application process works from where you are. Call us at (574) 341-4250 or apply online.
The Program
Yes, completely. A drug and alcohol free environment is a non-negotiable condition of residency and applies equally to all residents from day one. The safety and integrity of the community depends on everyone holding to that standard.
Days are self-directed. Residents are expected to maintain or seek employment, handle their household responsibilities, observe curfew, and attend house meetings. Beyond those expectations, you manage your own schedule. That balance is intentional — independent living requires being able to structure your own time, and practicing that in a supported environment is part of the program.
Adults committed to recovery and living drug and alcohol free. Residents come from different backgrounds and situations. What they share is a commitment to the program and to rebuilding their lives on a stable foundation.
There is no set time limit. How long you stay depends on your continued commitment to the program and to meeting house expectations. Some residents are here for several months; others stay longer. The goal is not to rush you out — it's to help you build the stability you need to live independently. When you are ready to take that step, we'll support that transition.
Please reach out to us directly to talk through your situation. We want to make sure we are the right fit for where you are in your recovery, and that conversation is better had in person than on a form. Call us at (574) 341-4250 or use the contact page.
